I love Walla Walla. This month marks my first anniversary of living here. My life went through a major upheaval last summer, which I may go into at some point on my blog, and it was during this time I left the Tri-Cities, where I had been living for the previous four years, to relocate to Walla Walla.
One year into my residency here and I can honestly say this is one of the nicest places I’ve ever lived.
There’s so much to love about this town. For starters, it oozes charm. The downtown area, which is within walking distance of my home and my office, has several fantastic restaurants, coffee houses, and boutiques. The tree-lined neighborhood streets are full of sweet, old homes. The people I’ve come to know, many whom I now call dear friends, are generous and wonderful. I never tire of taking walks in the evening just to take all of it in.
It’s an amazing community. I feel really blessed to get to live in this great little town.
I was talking to a vendor friend of mine who lives in Southern California last week and as we were saying good-bye she said something about sending her sunshine my way. I had to laugh because we were in the midst of heat wave with temperatures hitting nearly 100 degrees. Walla Walla is not a rainy place. We have 300+ days of sunshine a year here. We are farm country. We have apple orchards and wine vineyards and rolling acres of wheat fields. And don’t forget onions. People not familiar with Washington state often think of the whole place being one, gigantic rainy mass of green…much like Seattle. Not so. Washington has rainforests, mountains, farm land, and deserts.
It’s a pretty amazing state. If you’ve never been, you should come visit.
